Invercargill is the gateway to some of the country’s most spectacular scenery including Stewart Island, Fiordland and the Catlin’s
Explore the city’s museums, art galleries, beaches, gardens and parks. The inner city offers a modern, attractive vibrant heart to the country’s most southern city with a vibrant café culture, a host of dining options and bars.
Take the short drive to Bluff at the southern most end of the South Island and indulge in their world famous Bluff Oysters.
Situated at the bottom of the South Island, Stewart Island is a haven for anyone seeking tranquility and adventure.
Rakiura (the Maori name for Stewart Island) translates as “the Land of Glowing Skies”, referring to the Aurora Australis (the southern Lights).
The island is 75 kilometers long and up to 45 kilometers wide, with 85% of the island designated as a national park. It offers about 245 kilometers of walking tracks for every level of fitness.
The island is home to a population of about 450 inhabitants who utilize the only town of Halfmoon Bay as a congregation point.
If wildlife is of interest, then Stewart Island offers plenty, from 30 species of bird life including Kiwi’s, bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, sea lions, five penguin species and the occasional sea elephant.
